SpaceX shares climbed about 3% on October 27 to trade near $151, a move traders tied to Anthropic's IPO filing, which disclosed planned compute spending commitments of up to $120.5 billion to SpaceX, averaging about $3.1 billion per month once chips are deployed. The filing put SpaceX's orbital compute ambitions on the same disclosure footing as Google, Amazon and Microsoft commitments.

For component buyers, the number quantifies a demand stream that barely existed a year ago: space-based datacenter hardware. Anthropic's filing also committed up to $110 billion to Amazon and $114.5 billion to Google, but the SpaceX line is the one that pulls electronics into a new environment, with requirements for radiation tolerance, thermal management in vacuum and launch-vibration-hardened assemblies.

The rally came during a busy stretch for the newly listed company. SpaceX went public on Nasdaq under ticker SPCX in mid-2026 and now carries a market value around $2 trillion, with segments spanning launch, Starlink connectivity and AI infrastructure including the Grok model stack. Analysts' average price target of about $257 implies continued confidence in the connectivity-plus-compute story.

Procurement teams watching aerospace-adjacent electronics should note that orbital compute changes the qualification profile for memory, power and RF components: extended-temperature ratings, hermetic packaging and lot traceability move from nice-to-have to baseline. Starlink V3 satellite production volumes give suppliers a bridge program while datacenter-in-orbit hardware matures.

The Anthropic commitment is staged and conditional, and SpaceX has not detailed the hardware roadmap behind it. But a $3.1 billion monthly run-rate, once it starts, would rank among the largest single consumer of high-performance computing hardware in the industry.
