Anthropic Pushes $1.5T IPO as AI Listings Retreat
Anthropic is pressing ahead with a November listing while the rest of the autumn technology IPO calendar empties out. Reuters reported on 23 October that the company plans to publish its prospectus as early as the end of October, start institutional roadshows in the week of 9 November and complete the offering in mid November, at a valuation that reports have placed as high as USD 1.5 trillion. The people cited cautioned that the timetable can still move.
The contrast with peers is the story. Data centre operator Switch and AI infrastructure provider Nscale have both pushed their listings later, with Nscale partly occupied by SEC comments on its filing. SoftBank's SB Energy has delayed, while Blackstone backed AirTrunk REIT and NVIDIA backed Firmus have withdrawn or paused. Weak demand in the Oura IPO, and the pressure on CoreWeave shares as rates rose, have made investors cautious about anything that reads as an AI infrastructure proxy.
Anthropic's answer has been product velocity rather than financial engineering. This week it opened Claude Duet, a proactive agent that runs as a standalone app on web, iOS and Android for Pro and Max subscribers, works in the background, sends a daily brief and asks before acting. It also published its first annual Public Benefit Report, which disclosed that Claude now performs a growing share of the company's own safety research and that internal measurement showed model led execution of research and development tasks rising from under 1 percent in February to 26 percent in August. Nine Claude models now carry a SynthID based text watermark, a requirement that flows from the EU AI Act.
The procurement angle sits in the gap between the valuation and the compute bill. Anthropic has committed to up to 2 gigawatts of AMD MI450 capacity, alongside far larger commitments from OpenAI and Meta, and a USD 1.5 trillion listing is only credible if that capacity converts into revenue. A successful float funds the build. A repriced float, as OpenAI has just demonstrated by trimming its own round, slows it.
Buyers should therefore watch two dates, not one: the prospectus filing, which will quantify compute obligations, and the pricing, which sets the pace of data centre orders into 2027. Until both clear, treat accelerator adjacent allocations as provisional.
