Q4 Memory Hikes: DRAM +15 Percent, NAND +20 Percent

By YouHuYou Components · 2026-10-22 · Tangxia, Dongguan, China

TrendForce now expects conventional DRAM contract prices to climb 10 to 15 percent quarter over quarter in Q4 2026, with NAND flash up 15 to 20 percent and enterprise SSD up 23 to 28 percent. The firm does not see meaningful relief before 2027, when new fabs from SK hynix and Samsung start adding supply in the second half.

The structural cause is familiar by now: roughly 70 percent of advanced memory output is being absorbed by AI infrastructure. Hyperscalers have already signed 2027 Q1 DRAM and NAND agreements priced 30 to 40 percent above Q3 levels, and Apple has accepted Samsung's 2027 first-quarter quotes. That leaves everyone else buying from the residual open market.

At the commodity end the squeeze shows up in spot pricing. DRAMeXchange data through September shows DDR4 4Gb chips up more than 16 percent month over month, and DDR4 modules staying scarce even as DDR5 is prioritized for servers. Suppliers have confirmed they fulfilled agreed PC DRAM volumes for 2026, but PC DRAM supply could actually fall in 2027 as wafer capacity shifts toward server and HBM products.

For small and mid-sized OEMs the market has split into two tiers. Large buyers sit on long-term agreements; smaller buyers face allocation, short quote validity windows and single-source exposure on mature DDR3 and DDR4 designs that suppliers are actively winding down. Samsung could fill only about 70 percent of incoming DRAM orders at the height of the recent shortage, and Micron 55 to 60 percent of core demand, according to TrendForce figures cited by IDC and Sourceability.

Practical steps for procurement teams this quarter: put memory on the PO at the same time as the platform, not after; assume quotes expire within days rather than weeks; qualify at least one alternate density or vendor for every single-sourced memory line; and budget 2027 BOMs with memory cost well above 2026 actuals. The window for pre-hike inventory is closing. Buyers who wait for Q1 pricing are, on current forecasts, choosing to pay it.
